Both Cēsis and Cēsis county are one of the biggest enticements of Vidzeme travelers. In all seasons, Cēsis is visited by people who can appreciate the historical and cultural heritage, the beauty of the natural landscape, and the peaceful rhythm of life in a small town. The cobbled streets of Cēsis Old Town have retained their design from the Middle Ages, retaining old buildings with red-tiled roofs, enclosed courtyards, and renovated facades of the houses.

Cēsis - it means festivals - Cēsis Art Festival's contemporary art exhibitions, Knight fights in Medieval festival and warm summer evening concerts on the stage of the Castle Park.

Cēsis - one of the most beautiful small cities in Latvia - attracts in summer with the pristine nature of the Gauja valley, medieval spirit, and contemporary art, but in winter it invites to the largest ski centre in the Baltics, which surprises with the diversity of trails and the longest descents in the region.

Cēsis was founded in 1206 and it is the third oldest city in Latvia. Evidence of population in Cēsis dates back to the 4th century. The fastest growth Cēsis experienced in Livonian times when the city became the capital of Livonia and the main development centre of Vidzeme. In 1323, Cēsis acquired the rights of the city, and since the 14th century, Cēsis was a member of the Hanseatic League.

Cesis has been known as an art, culture and recreation centre already since the end of the 19th century, and also nowadays Cēsis is an important cultural and artistic centre in the region and nationwide - the cultural environment of Cēsis is influenced by the cultural and historical heritage of both the Cēsis medieval castle, the old town of Cēsis and the preserved street network, as well as the stone and wooden buildings, wooden villas built on the banks of the Gauja River and ancient manor houses.

In Cēsis you can enjoy active recreation, relax in the SPA, go on thematic excursions, and get inspired by cultural events.
