The Green Villa
The Green Villa

The Green Villa is the only authentic example of the Sigulda resort building, which allows imagining the construction of Sigulda city, but especially the Šveices iela at the beginning of the 20th century. This cottage type wooden building with built porches, balconies, and openwork carvings was built at the end of the 19th century. Since 2018 the building area is used as a creative quarter.

Šveices iela was the first in Sigulda to be covered with these types of structures. Before World War I, there were 114 villas and boarding houses in the city.

 

In 1891, the building was a pharmacy rented to a certified apothecary known as Hugo Fogelis. After the agrarian reforms, The Green Villa became the property of Georg Kropotkin, the duchess Mary Kropotkin lived here until 1939. During the first Latvian state of freedom, there was a court of justice, later a library.

 

The Green Villa is a cultural monument of national importance, national defense no. 8498.
